Full disclosure: Built in EU runs on Brevo. Our transactional emails (submission confirmations, approval notifications, newsletter welcome messages) all go through their API, and our newsletter list is managed via their Contacts API. So this review comes from actual daily use, not a quick trial. The transactional API is solid and reliable — we have had zero deliverability issues since launch. Setup was straightforward with their Node.js SDK. The free tier at 300 emails/day is genuinely generous for a small site. Where Brevo falls short compared to Mailchimp is in email template design, the drag-and-drop editor is functional but less polished, and the template library is smaller. The CRM feels bolted on rather than deeply integrated. Reporting is adequate but not as granular as SendGrid's. The real selling point beyond features is jurisdiction: Brevo is a French company, B Corp certified, with all data processing in the EU. For any European business that needs marketing or transactional email and wants to avoid routing customer data through US infrastructure, Brevo is the most complete option available.

“Switched from Mailchimp”
Switched from Mailchimp mainly because of the rising costs of their contact-based pricing. Paying for unsubscribed contacts didn’t make sense anymore (especially for my use case). Moving to Brevo was straightforward. Setup was smooth, the editor is quite simple and intuitive, and the pricing model (pay per email, not per contact) is much more predictable for a growing list. Automation and segmentation feel more flexible, and having CRM, transactional emails, and SMS included is a big plus (not using everything yet, but maybe in the future). Mailchimp is solid, but for an EU business looking for better cost control and compliance peace of mind, Brevo is the better fit for me.
