Offen (German for "open") was started in 2019 by Frederik Ring and Hendrik Niefeld in Berlin as a self-hosted web analytics tool that treats website visitors and operators as equal parties. All collected usage data is encrypted end-to-end in the user's browser, and data collection requires explicit opt-in consent. Users can access, download, and delete their own analytics data at any time. The project received funding from the NLnet Foundation and is free and open source.
