Which private cloud storage should you choose?
Quick answer: pick on encryption first, then cost. If your files must be end-to-end encrypted, only providers that encrypt by default qualify, and the cheapest of those over your planning horizon usually wins. This calculator applies that order to eight answers and shows every point it awarded.

How the recommendation is scored
Scoring runs in your browser from the same committed dataset that powers our pricing tables. There is no model and no randomness: the same eight answers always produce the same ranking. Providers are first removed by hard filters, then the survivors are scored.
What removes a provider
- No plan in your currency covers the storage you asked for.
- You asked for end-to-end encryption and the provider does not have it on by default. A provider that sells it as a paid add-on stays in, with the add-on price added to its total.
- You asked for a Linux desktop client and the provider does not have one, or we have not verified that it does.
- You asked for file collaboration and the provider does not offer it, or we have not verified that it does.
What earns points
- Total cost over the horizon you pick, ranked against the other providers that fit: cheapest scores 40 points, second 32, third 24, fourth 16, and everything below that 8. Providers on an identical total share a rank.
- Verified in-app media playback, counted only when you ask for it: 15 points. A provider whose media playback we have not verified scores 0 here and says so.
- Part of a wider privacy suite, counted only when you ask for it: 12 points.
- Headquarters recorded in a European country: 10 points. A provider whose headquarters we have not verified scores 0 here and says so.
How ties are broken
Providers on the same score are ordered with our affiliate partners first, then alphabetically by provider name. A partnership never changes a score, only the order of an exact tie.
Prices are never converted between currencies. A provider with no plan in the currency you picked is excluded and told you so rather than guessed at, and an attribute we have not verified scores nothing and says it is unverified.
